Charity & Community
The Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters' Association is committed to fostering a culture of giving, supporting worthy causes, and making a positive impact across the Waterloo community.
Our Charities Committee coordinates off-duty firefighter volunteers to support local causes and community events. They oversee the charitable efforts of the Waterloo Professional Fire Fighters Association. When you work with us, you’re partnering with off-duty firefighter volunteers. We organize our own events, schedules, and donations. Our focus is the shared values of our members.
What does “off-duty” mean at an event?
Off-duty means our members are there as Association volunteers. We assign a WPFFA event lead, coordinate shifts, and ensure your event is a good fit for our members. Off-duty volunteers do not have access to fire trucks or other emergency response resources without approval from from the Fire Chief.
How is that different from on-duty firefighters?
On-duty firefighters are working their regular jobs with Waterloo Fire Rescue, the City’s fire department. On-duty crews handle emergency response and public-education services (like station tours and fire-safety presentations). If a limited on-duty presence could add value to your event, WPFFA may consult WFR, but any on-duty participation is at WFR’s discretion and always subject to emergency calls.
How we work together
We’re proud to collaborate with WFR and City partners when it's appropriate. Think of it this way: WPFFA Charity coordinates the volunteer side, and WFR manages anything that involves on-duty crews or apparatus.
The WPFFA receives many requests for support throughout the year. We thoughtfully review each one and strive to support as many as we can—though not every request will be selected.

Request off-duty firefighter volunteers or a WPFFA charity partnership for your fundraiser or community event.
Privacy: Your submission goes to the WPFFA Charities Committee. We may share details with WFR/City only if collaboration is possible or an on-duty supplement is being considered.
